Spanglish Café

A work café in Old San Juan. Coffee, craft, and Puerto Rican design history meet here.

Where the five-point star lands

Built as a living homage to Joaquín Mercado

(1940–2003). Artist, designer, filmmaker, educator.

His "Estrellas" silkscreens created an early "digital" collage language. A crisp star over cosmic imagery.

That star echoes la monoestrellada—the white star of our flag. Body and mind. The elements. The people.

Design moments

Rotating pieces. Historic textures. Quiet museum energy—never stiff.

Not a coworking brand. Not a gimmick. A real café you'll return to because it feels right.

Multidisciplinary, Puerto Rican, modern inside historic

Mercado's path moved between San Juan and New York.

His practice crossed art, design, film, teaching.

He worked in influential design environments.

Produced cultural graphics in Puerto Rico. Created an interdisciplinary space in Old San Juan.

Spanglish Cafe brings that lineage forward. Not as a shrine, a living continuation.
